Time Monitor supports 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
Time Monitor v1.2.6 is now officially released. This version of Time Monitor is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows 7, Vista, & XP. The addition of 64-bit support was a much requested feature and we are glad to be able to offer it. You can read Time Monitor v1.2.6 release for additional information on the features and improvements we've made to the product.
Porting our 32-bit code to a 64-bit environment was quite an accomplishment for us. We use many low-level techniques of which some had to be rewritten to account for the differences between those two environments. If you are in the Information Technology field you are aware of the many issues you can encounter along the way. Even Microsoft had a tough time with it's 64-bit OS's due to the many drivers and programs which needed to be updated to run on a Windows 64-bit operating system.
Today, 64-bit operating systems and programs are much more mainstream. Our own machines have Windows Professional and Windows Ultimate 64-bit versions for developing and testing. If you have a newer machine using an Intel or AMD 64-bit dual or quad core machine you should be running Windows 7 64-bit. Piranha Designs highly recommends this operating system as our platform of choice.
The 64-bit versions of Windows allow you to access an incredible amount of memory and the speed of the CPUs along with the new multi-core features far surpass yesterday's machines. Machines with only a 32-bit CPU cannot access more than 4 Gigabytes of memory. That's why you really shouldn't install more than 4GB of memory on a 32-bit system. The 64-bit versions can theoretically reach a whopping 17179869184 Gigabytes!!! The more memory sticks you install into your 64-bit machine the better. That reduces disk-thrashing (paging) and speeds up your system immensely.
In closing, we feel this is our best Time Monitor yet and invite you to download and install the program. A big thank you to our customers who have participated in the release candidate testing. Your feedback is invaluable!
Till next time...
